Margot ran a campaign that was powered by good ideas and incredible supporters and volunteers. In the end, we came up a bit short, finishing a very close second to John Mahoney. Please see the post below for Margot's message about the results, and about the campaign in general.

We'd like to thank our volunteers and staff. We'd also like to thank Mayor Joe O'Brien and former City Councilor Steve Patton, as well as our oganizational support from: Clean Water Action, Mass Alliance, Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters, Mass NOW, Massachusetts Nurses Association, Massachusetts Sierra Club, Massachusetts Teachers Association, National Association of Social Workers, Neighbor to Neighbor, Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts, SEIU 509 Massachusetts Union for Human Service Workers, SEIU Local 615 Property Service Workers, SEIU 1199 United Healthcare Workers East, and the SEIU State Council.

Margot Endorsed by Massachusetts Nurses Association

Worcester, MA – The state's largest nursing union has endorsed Margot Barnet, Democratic candidate for State Representative for the 13th Worcester district, an open seat due to the vacancy created by Rep Bob Spellane's decision to step down. The Massachusetts Nurses Association has endorsed Margot because she will be a tireless advocate for nurses and will work for the continued improvement of health care services in the state legislature.

“Once elected, Margot will do all she can to ensure the passage of legislation which will ensure safe nurse staffing for patients in our hospitals,” said Donna Kelly-Williams RN, President of the MNA. She added "It is important that we elect individuals who are strong advocates for access to safe and quality healthcare.”

Lynne Starbard RN, who is the Chairperson of MNA's Region 2 which includes the city of Worcester, added "Over the past several years, the MNA has worked with Margot on a number of healthcare, public safety and social justice issues and projects. We know and trust Margot to do all that she can to advocate for nurses, healthcare professionals, and the patients we care for."

Dr. Margot Barnet has also been endorsed by Mass Alliance, a coalition whose 22 members include the Massachusetts Teachers Association, SEIU Local 509, and the Sierra Club. In addition, Worcester Mayor Joe O'Brien and former Worcester District 1 City Councilor Steve Patton have also endorsed Dr. Barnet.

Just before this release, Barnet's campaign learned of two additional endorsements from Clean Water Action and from Neighbor to Neighbor. More information will be available soon. In response to the deluge of recent endorsements, Dr. Margot Barnet said, “I am honored and humbled by the confidence that such important groups have given me this week. As a long-time environmental advocate and a former Registered Nurse, I know how important groups like the Massachusetts Nurses Association, Clean Water Action and Neighbor to Neighbor are to the health and well being of our community.” She added, “Some of the most important work that I have done has been side by side with the Massachusetts Nurses Association and I am honored to know that they will continue to be by my side in the State House.”
